Understanding

I was just reading about when Jesus was transfigured on the mount and the disciples' reaction. And it occurred to me that they were completely and utterly out of their zone of understanding. It was a step change so far above what they could believe or see or expect that all they could do was fall back to what they knew. So, they saw Jesus. They saw him transfigured. They saw his being glowing and turn to white. But they also saw Elijah and Moses, and their initial reaction was to fall back on the Old Testament and say, "Well, let's build a tabernacle for the three of you, because that's the best thing we can do for you." And then whilst they said that, the Lord ignored their business and religious activity and said, "Behold, this is my Son, in whom I am well-pleased. Listen to him."
So, it really wasn't a tabernacle thing. He was saying, "This is my son. He doesn't need a tabernacle like Elijah and Moses. What you are seeing and experiencing is something else. it is something different." And I just wonder, how we would react in our perception of God, and how we think of Jesus if it was us? Because the distance between our understanding about who we think God is, and who Jesus is. Is as far as the east is from the west and we have only just lifted the edge of his garment when it comes to understanding. And the older I get, the more I understand that I only see dimly in the mirror. But one day I will see face to face. And until that day , I will look to Faith, Hope and Love.
